Blames Systemic Failure, Orders Retake for 65 Affected Centres This Weekend
In an emotional press briefing, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) broke down in tears on Tuesday, issuing a heartfelt apology to thousands of candidates and their parents over the recent mass failure recorded in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Describing the situation as “deeply regrettable,” the Registrar attributed the widespread failure to systemic breakdowns at 65 designated centres, mainly in Lagos and across the South East region.
In a swift response, JAMB has ordered a free retake of the exams for all affected candidates. The rescheduled UTME will take place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Lagos and other identified locations.
JAMB also assured that any candidate facing a clash with other academic or personal commitments will be promptly rescheduled to ensure fairness.
“This is not the Nigeria we want to build. We owe our children a better system,” the Registrar said tearfully, vowing comprehensive reforms to prevent a recurrence.
The announcement has stirred both sympathy and cautious optimism among stakeholders, many praising the transparency while urging JAMB to address the root causes of the failure.
