INEC Officially Notifies Senator Natasha of Recall Petition, Moves to Verify Signatures

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has officially informed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan about receiving the petition for her recall. In a fresh update, the Commission also confirmed that the petitioners’ representatives have now submitted their contact details, including phone numbers, email addresses, and a physical address.

In a statement on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, INEC’s National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, outlined the next steps, emphasizing that the Commission will now scrutinize the list of signatories attached to the recall petition. The verification process aims to ensure that over 50% of the registered voters in the senator’s constituency have endorsed the recall move.

“As provided in Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, a letter has been sent to notify the Senator sought to be recalled. The same letter has been copied to the Senate leadership and published on the Commission’s website,” the statement read.

INEC reassured the public that the verification process will be conducted transparently, with findings made public. The outcome of this crucial stage will determine the next steps in the recall proceedings.
