Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed speculations that he may withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, insisting that he remains firmly in the contest and will not step down for any candidate.

Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2023, emphasized his determination to pursue the presidency once more, stating that only a transparent and competitive primary within his party could determine otherwise.

Speaking on his ambition, Atiku clarified that while he respects the aspirations of younger politicians, he will not relinquish his bid unless he is defeated fairly in a democratic process.

According to Daily Trust, Atiku maintained that he is ready to test his popularity at the polls and would only support another candidate if he loses in a credible contest. He stressed that rumours of him abandoning his ambition were unfounded and aimed at misleading the public.

The former Vice President’s remarks come amid ongoing debates within the PDP over zoning, succession, and the push for a younger candidate to lead the party into the next general elections.

Atiku’s declaration sets the stage for an intense political battle ahead of 2027, as opposition parties strategize to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
