Security operatives have dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing facility in Giroji Village, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leading to the arrest of four suspects believed to be involved in the production and circulation of locally fabricated weapons.
The operation was triggered by actionable intelligence pointing to unusual activities around a residential structure in the community. Upon surveillance and intervention, two individuals—35-year-old Shuaibu Abubakar and 18-year-old Ismail Shuaibu, both natives of Unguwar Mani Danshoshiya in Kiru LGA of Kano State—were apprehended while actively producing firearms and cartridges.
A subsequent search of the premises yielded a cache of weapon components and tools, including three completed locally made guns, three unfinished gun frames, 14 cartridges, five live T.06 rounds, a bench vice, filing and welding machines, binding wires, multiple iron rods and pipes, as well as a set of keys.
Further investigation led to the arrest of two more suspects—Hassan Ibrahim from Giroji Village and Murtala Yakubu from Kari in Makarfi—both reportedly serving as local vigilantes. Authorities say the duo played key roles in facilitating or possibly distributing the fabricated weapons.
All four suspects are said to be cooperating with investigators, offering critical insight into the network’s operations. The case has since been handed over to the relevant security agencies for deeper investigation and prosecution.
This breakthrough is seen as a significant stride in the ongoing clampdown on illegal arms production and distribution, especially as security agencies intensify efforts to tackle rising insecurity across the region.
