Idiroko immigration border command intercepts 2 victims of human trafficking — Comptroller

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Idiroko border command in Ogun State, has intercepted two female victims of human trafficking.

The Command’s Comptroller, Mr Mohammed Adamu, made the disclosure to newsmen on Saturday.

He gave the names of the victimes as Miracle Felix, 22-year-old and Okpara Gold, 21, all claimed to be from Rivers State.

Adamu further revealed that they were intercepted at Ajilete by the Immigration Mobile Patrol on the July 15, 2024.

He said that investigation revealed that the victims were on their to Burkina Faso for greena pastures and without valid travel documents.

Adamu said that the command would continue to intensify surveillance and intelligence along border posts under its control with a view to arrest traffickers and make them to face wrath of the law.

He added that the rescued persons were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for rehabilitation.

The Comptroller said that people especially females should be cautious about traffickers who deceive their victims in the name of securing lucrative job for them abroad.

Adamu reiterated the determination of the command to continue securing the border posts in order to check transborder crimes such as smuggling of immigrants and other forms of insecurity.
