The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State has recorded a major political breakthrough following the mass defection of hundreds of supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The defection, which took place over the weekend, was announced by ADC chieftain, Hon. Aminu Musa Karofi, who disclosed that 473 members from the three major parties officially joined the ADC in what analysts describe as a significant political realignment ahead of 2027.
According to Hon. Karofi — who doubles as the Director General of the Atiku Projects Group and a close ally of Katsina’s opposition leader, Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa — the defectors comprise 193 from the PDP, 134 from the NNPP, and 146 from the APC.
The new members, drawn from Karofi A & B and Bagagadi wards, include notable politicians such as Malam Sale Ummaru Karofi of the NNPP and Hon. Awwalu Abdul’aziz Karofi of the APC. Their move, observers say, is poised to strengthen the ADC’s grassroots structure and bolster its growing influence across Katsina North.
Addressing supporters at the event, Hon. Karofi said the mass defection symbolized “a new journey toward political reform, unity, and progress for Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.” He reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and development-oriented leadership.
“This is not just a change of party,” he declared. “It is a declaration of hope and a commitment to rebuild our political system in line with the values of justice, fairness, and accountability.”
Also in attendance were party stalwarts, including Hon. Nasir Chakis Dutsinma, representative of Sadiq Yaradua, the ADC Women Leader in Katsina State, Hajiya Hawwa Jibrin Yargata, Hajiya Hawwa Labaran, and other key figures who described the development as “a wind of change” sweeping across Katsina’s political landscape.
Political observers note that the defection underscores the ADC’s growing presence in the state, signaling a shift in the balance of political power as the 2027 elections draw closer.
