In a chilling twist to a domestic rivalry, the Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old housewife, Rabi’a Labaran, for allegedly stabbing her co-wife, 30-year-old Zainab Lawal, to death during a late-night altercation in Daura.
The tragic incident occurred around 11:00 pm on May 24 behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura town, Daura Local Government Area. According to police, a report was filed by the husband, Nasir Yusuf, who returned from the market to find his first wife lifeless in a pool of blood, with multiple stab wounds.
Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Sabon Gari Division, swiftly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura. Unfortunately, she was declared dead on arrival.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that a dispute with the deceased escalated into violence, culminating in the fatal stabbing. The murder weapon was recovered as evidence.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the act, describing it as a tragic reminder of the dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts. He urged the public to embrace dialogue and legal means in addressing disputes rather than resorting to violence.
The case is currently under investigation as authorities continue to gather more facts surrounding the fatal incident.
