In a dramatic operation, the Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 25 people over an alleged attempt to conduct a same-sex wedding in the Hotoro area of the state.
The suspects — 18 males and 7 females — were apprehended during a raid at Fatima Event Centre along Hotoro Bypass, where the ceremony was reportedly set to take place.
Confirming the development, the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, said the arrests followed credible intelligence that a group of young men were organizing a gay marriage in violation of Islamic teachings and Nigerian law.
He disclosed that the suspects were taken into custody for questioning and would be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“The Hisbah will not tolerate any act that goes against our moral and religious values. Those arrested will face the full wrath of the law,” Sheikh Daurawa stated.
This latest crackdown adds to a growing list of similar arrests by the Hisbah Board in Kano, which has continued to enforce moral conduct in line with Islamic principles.
The incident has once again stirred public debate on morality, religion, and human rights, with many residents supporting stricter enforcement to preserve what they describe as “the moral fabric of society.”
