Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have struck a decisive blow against the spread of illegal firearms, arresting two suspects and recovering two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles during a routine highway operation.
The arrest followed a stop-and-search exercise by the Safer Highway Patrol attached to the Department of Operations along the Gusau–Funtua Highway, between Kotorkoshi and Tazame, at about noon on January 11, 2026. A Golf vehicle, Abuja registration number KUJ 893 CK, was intercepted—and what appeared routine quickly turned dramatic.
Police sources said one Samaila Na’ibi, a resident of Kuya Village in Bungudu, was found with the rifles cleverly concealed inside a sack. The vehicle was reportedly driven by Samaila Aminu from Faskari.
Both suspects were immediately taken into custody, while the vehicle was impounded at the Kotorkoshi Divisional Police Headquarters. The recovered firearms have since been secured as exhibits.
Reacting to the breakthrough, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, psc+, reassured residents of Zamfara State of the Command’s unwavering resolve to curb the circulation of illicit arms and sustain peace across the state.
The suspects and exhibits are to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation, after which appropriate legal action will follow.
Police authorities also renewed their call on the public to support law enforcement with timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains key to winning the fight against crime.
