The Honorable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Mallam Gana, has officially inaugurated the Health Research Ethics Committee.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Aliyu Shettima, Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health, includes members from various ministries and parastatals, such as the Ministry of Justice, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNPH), among others.
In his address, Commissioner Gana highlighted the importance of a “One Health” approach, which integrates animal health, environmental health, and public health.
He emphasized the necessity of safeguarding public interests through ethical research practices.
The Permanent Secretary,Borno state ministry of health and human service, Alhaji Babagana Kadai, encouraged committee members to be proactive and effective in their roles.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Ali Abubakar Kullima, commended the Commissioner for his timely initiative and urged the committee to adhere strictly to ethical clearance timelines.
The Commissioner also extended his gratitude to partners, particularly Lafiya UK, for their support in this endeavor..
