A volunteer group, Arewa Development Support Initiative (ADSI), on Wednesday distributed cash assistance 150 patients receiving treatment at various hospitals across Sokoto metropolis.
The Acting Coordinator of the Organisation, Dr Abubakar Maishanu, said ADSI initiated voluntarily support scheme to support needy and less privileged persons in the community.
Maishanu said the organisation have conducted skills empowerment training to some indigent persons to enhance peoples livelihoods and make them self reliance.
He explained that Sokoto is part of the states in northern Nigeria faced with challenges of poverty, low education, unemployment, insecurity and other challenges bedeviling the region.
” We consider youths and women empowerment as panacea of solving many programmes in the region.
” ADSI collaborate with agencies and institutions to inculcate moral discipline, create employment opportunities and enhance schools enrollments, ” Maishanu said.
He urged wealthy individuals and professionals to join the voluntary group to contribute within their means for humanitarian supports and facilitate empowerment programmes.
According to him, hospitals covered with present gesture included Specialists Hospital, Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTHS) and WCWC health center in Sokoto metropolis.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of UDUTHS, Prof. Anas Sabir, commended the organization for the initiatives and urged the leadership to engage on proactive publicity in order to attract more members to join the voluntary group.
Newsmen reports that group members went round to difficult locations distribution the cash supports to patients residing in the hospitals.
