GUNPOINT CAR THEFT CRUSHED IN UYO Police Hunt Gang as Stolen Corolla Is Recovered Overnight

Swift action by operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled a late-night car-snatching operation in Uyo, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a stolen Toyota Corolla.

The drama unfolded around 11:30pm on January 20, when police officers on routine night patrol near the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium responded to an urgent distress call from a Bolt driver who reported that armed men had dispossessed him of his vehicle at gunpoint.

Although the attackers fled with the car, police intelligence moved faster. Within hours, operatives tracked the vehicle to Nkwot Ikono Village in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, where the stolen Corolla was located.

A suspect, Sunday Okon suspected car snatcher from Nna Enin Village in Uruan Local Government Area, was arrested in possession of the vehicle, bearing registration number DKA 337 CB. Police said the suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation.

The suspect remains in custody as detectives intensify efforts to round up other members of the gang and recover weapons used in the crime.

Commending the operatives for their speed and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, “Baba Mohammed Azare”,”Akwa Ibom reassured residents of the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on violent crime and its resolve to keep Akwa Ibom safe.

Members of the public have been urged to stay alert and continue to support the police with timely and credible information as the clampdown on criminal elements continues.
