The Kebbi State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a tragic incident that left a 35-year-old man dead and his wife abducted in Birnin Kebbi.
The victim, identified as Sufiyanu Garba, a resident of Badariya Quarters in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked in the early hours of Friday, March 13, 2026.
Confirming the development to journalists in the state capital, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the incident occurred in the Badariya area and resulted in the killing of the man while his wife was forcefully taken away by the assailants.
According to the police spokesman, detectives from the command swiftly moved to the scene after receiving reports of the attack and immediately commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Preliminary findings, he said, revealed that a police checkpoint is located not far from the area where the attack occurred, which could have been alerted for a quicker response if information had reached them on time.
Garba was rushed to the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
The police command described the incident as unfortunate and assured residents that all necessary steps are being taken to track down the perpetrators.
Usman further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case to ensure a thorough and diligent investigation.
The directive, according to him, is aimed at intensifying efforts to rescue the abducted woman and bring those responsible for the crime to justice.
The command also reassured residents of Kebbi State that it is strengthening the security architecture across the state to prevent similar incidents.
It therefore urged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activity or emergency situation to the nearest security agency, stressing that timely information remains crucial in enabling rapid response and averting such tragic occurrences.
