Gunmen Ambush Zamfara Governor’s Aide, Miracle Escape on Highway

Borno State Government

Panic gripped commuters along the Funtua–Gusau highway on Thursday evening as suspected bandits launched a brazen attack on the convoy of Zamfara State Governor’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, in a daring ambush near Kucheri village.

The attack, which occurred around 6:16 p.m., saw gunmen emerging from both sides of the road, unleashing a hail of bullets on the vehicle conveying the top government aide, his driver, and two others.

In what sources described as a “near-death escape,” a bullet pierced through the windshield, narrowly missing the driver, while another assailant reportedly moved in for a close-range shot—but his weapon failed to fire.

Amid the chaos, the driver displayed remarkable courage, speeding out of the ambush zone and steering the vehicle to safety.

All occupants of the vehicle escaped unhurt, in what many are calling a miraculous survival.

The incident underscores the persistent security challenges along key highways in the North-West, particularly in Zamfara State, where banditry continues to threaten lives and disrupt movement.

Security operatives are yet to issue an official statement as of press time, but efforts are reportedly underway to track down the attackers.
