Gunmen have attacked Yan Kwada village in Faruruwa ward, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting five women, including nursing mothers.
According to reports by Daily Trust, the armed men invaded the community on Sunday evening, firing sporadically into the air before forcing their way into several homes. A resident said the attackers arrived in large numbers, heavily armed, and operated freely before escaping with their victims.
“They came as they always do, firing into the air and breaking doors. They took five women, including some nursing mothers,” the source said.
The resident added that two of the abducted women later returned home, while three others remain in captivity as of press time.
The incident comes barely a month after troops reportedly engaged bandits in the same area, killing at least 19 of them during a gun battle. Despite the operation, locals say attacks have continued in communities bordering Kano and Katsina States, leaving many residents living in fear.
Several villages in the area have reportedly been deserted, with displaced residents seeking safety in nearby towns such as Faruruwa or moving to urban centres.
Security agencies are yet to release an official statement regarding the latest abduction, but residents have called for intensified patrols and stronger security presence in the region.
