GUN BATTLE IN ZAMFARA: GOC CONVOY SMASHES FLEEING TERRORISTS, SOLDIER FALLS IN CLASH

Borno State Government

A fierce gun battle erupted in Zamfara State as troops attached to the convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division engaged fleeing terrorists, neutralising several bandits in a dramatic encounter.

Security sources disclosed that the clash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on April 6, 2026, in Tsafe Local Government Area, while the GOC—also Commander of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma—was returning from an operational assessment visit.

The convoy had inspected frontline positions at Kulchin Kalgo and FOB Danjibga before running into the armed group at Maitashi village, triggering a heavy exchange of gunfire.

Troops, in a swift and decisive response, overpowered the fleeing assailants, killing several and recovering weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles believed to have been used in their operations.

However, the victory came at a cost as one soldier sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the encounter. He was evacuated to Keta Healthcare Centre but later succumbed to his injuries.

Following the operation, troops swept and secured the area before the convoy continued to Gusau.

Military operations in the axis are ongoing as security forces intensify pressure on criminal elements across the state.
