Gumi Challenges Rev Dachomo: “Bring Your 500 Names, I’ll Bring 1,000”

Borno State Government

Controversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has ignited a fresh round of national debate after daring Plateau State firebrand preacher, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, to publicly provide a list of 500 Christians allegedly killed by Islamic extremists and bandits.

In a bold counter-move, Gumi declared he would, in return, present a list of at least 1,000 Muslims reportedly killed by Christian militias in Kaduna State.

The cleric issued the challenge while responding to growing religious tensions and inflammatory claims circulating across northern Nigeria.

Gumi insisted that the cycle of accusations is only deepening mistrust and urged religious leaders to embrace honesty, evidence, and peace-driven dialogue.
He warned that sensational narratives—if left unchecked—would continue to fuel division rather than promote reconciliation.

Rev. Dachomo, known for his scathing sermons and unfiltered public commentary, is yet to formally respond to the cleric’s challenge.

Observers say the exchange reflects a troubling rise in sectarian rhetoric at a time when communities across the North desperately need unity and calm.

As both sides brace for the next move, Nigerians are watching closely—hoping the war of words does not inflame an already fragile atmosphere.
