The Nineteen Seventeen Northern Consensus Movement NSNCM for Peace, Unity, Empowerment, and Development Initiative held its annual press conference on January 2, 2025, to review its activities in 2024 and outline its projections for 2025.
“We welcome you into the New Year 2025,” said Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, National President of NSNCM. “As part of our traditional heritage, we have invited you from time to time to update you with our activities, achievements, and challenges, and also create the ambience for us all to interact.”
The organization, which is an amalgamation of 596 affiliated registered associations of Northerners from the 19 Northern states and associations of Northerners resident in the 17 Southern states, reflected on its various engagements and achievements in 2024.
Some of the notable achievements include the creation of the North West Development Commission, which the organization had advocated for through a press conference and a follow-up letter to the National Assembly and the Presidency.
The organization also held press conferences on various issues, including the killings of Northerners in Lokpanta, the update on compensations for victims of IPOB, ESN, Sasha Akinyele Market, and End SARS killings, and the killings and destruction of properties of Northerners residing in the Southern part of the country.
In addition, the organization engaged with various stakeholders, including the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the Honorable Minister of Interior, and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
The organization also participated in various peace and security summits, town hall meetings, and conferences at national, state, and local government levels.
For 2025, the organization outlined its projections, including the conclusion of its intended Peace Summit and the organization of a press conference to that effect.
The organization also expressed its gratitude to the press for their support and coverage of its activities. “2025 will be a continuation of 2024, with more positive and progressive activities,” said Aliyu.
The organization also announced that it would be addressing two burning issues in the coming year, including the reputation of the President, which was viewed by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, and the issue of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria.
