The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in a chilling suspected armed robbery and murder case, following the arrest of a key suspect and the exhumation of a corpse in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
The Command said the case dates back to November 11, 2025, when reports reached police that an unidentified commercial motorcyclist was allegedly cornered at Ikot Esop Village, robbed of his motorcycle, and subsequently went missing. Swift investigative steps were immediately activated as detectives moved to unravel the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.
After months of sustained intelligence gathering, police operatives on Friday, February 6, 2026, arrested Emmanuel Silas (male) in connection with the crime. According to the Police, the suspect made useful statements during interrogation, which led investigators to the crime scene.
At the location pointed out by the suspect, operatives discovered that the victim had been killed and buried in a shallow grave. The remains were carefully exhumed, documented, and preserved for forensic examination and possible autopsy.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full chain of events, recover the stolen motorcycle, and track down other suspected accomplices currently on the run.
Reassuring residents, the Command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property across Akwa Ibom State, vowing that all those involved in the heinous act will be brought to justice.
