Borno Governor, His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, attended a public lecture held in honor of outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aliyu Shugaba at the Muhammad Indimi International Conference Center, University of Maiduguri on Saturday, May 25, 2024. During the event, Governor Zulum pledged his support to the institution by announcing various initiatives.

The governor announced a donation of bungalow flats to serving and retiring professors of the University of Maiduguri and revealed plans to construct additional housing estates for university staff. Furthermore, Governor Zulum pledged to address the university’s electricity and water supply issues.

Governor Zulum also directed the university’s authorities to nominate individuals who would collaborate with the state government to identify and address the institution’s major challenges.

In his speech, the governor commended Prof. Aliyu Shugaba for his leadership style and the infrastructural and academic projects he oversaw during his tenure, despite the challenges faced by the university.

A public lecture titled “Leadership Challenges in Nigerian Universities” was delivered by Professor Junrilla Dahiru Amin, who discussed various topics including university funding, academic research, staff and student welfare, and the role of technology in education.

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, expressed his gratitude for the support and cooperation received from the university’s management staff and students.

The event was chaired by Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, who highlighted the importance of peace, unity, and stability within the university community. Prof. Amin emphasized the need for proper use of social media and technology, urging students and individuals to uphold ethical standards online.
