Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, hosted an exclusive Ramadan iftar at the Government House in Maiduguri, bringing together key stakeholders, including members of the State House of Assembly, the National Assembly, the Advisers’ Forum, the Borno Elders Forum, security chiefs, and party officials.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Zulum emphasized his administration’s commitment to resettling all internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returning refugees to their communities. He also reaffirmed plans to invest in climate-smart agriculture to ensure food security and economic stability in the state.
The governor acknowledged the collaborative efforts of political leaders, security agencies, and community stakeholders in the state’s ongoing development. He emphasised the importance of unity and collective action in achieving Borno’s recovery and long-term progress.
Speaking on behalf of the State Executive Council members, the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, praised Governor Zulum’s leadership, highlighting crucial achievements, including the return of displaced persons from Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, the commissioning of the Borno State International Airport, and the soon-to-be-completed Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital.
Tijani noted that the governor’s 2024 budget prioritizes governance and security, energy development, agricultural transformation, and land resettlement. He urged all stakeholders to remain steadfast in their support, describing 2024 as “Borno’s Year of Recovery.”
Delivering remarks on behalf of all security chiefs, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Yusuf, assured the governor of their unwavering commitment to restoring peace in Borno State. He highlighted ongoing military-civilian efforts in securing communities and facilitating safe resettlement.
The commander emphasized that while security forces continue their operations, prayers and community cooperation remain crucial in achieving lasting peace in the region.
Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, leading the members of the National Assembly, declared their full support for Governor Zulum’s policies and programs. He assured the governor that legislators from Borno would continue to back initiatives aimed at rebuilding and developing the state.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly Abdulkariim Lawan reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to partnering with the executive in advancing policies that drive economic growth, security, and social development.
Chairman of the Borno Elders Forum, Alhaji Gambo Gubio who was a first minister of Welfare and education in 1950s, commiserated with the governor and the people of Borno over the recent flood disaster. He revealed that the forum had secured over N80 billion for the reconstruction of the Alau Dam, a crucial infrastructure project for flood control and irrigation.
Gubio also congratulated Governor Zulum for receiving multiple awards as Nigeria’s best-performing governor and prayed for his continued success in serving the people of Borno State.
