Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has pledged that the ₦18.9 billion, 27-kilometre Sabuwa–Tashar Bawa road project will soon take off, despite delays caused by insecurity in the area.
Radda disclosed this while receiving a delegation of elders, district heads, business leaders, political figures, clerics, and youth representatives from Sabuwa Local Government who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Katsina.
The governor explained that the state is set to release ₦7.5 billion — representing 40 percent mobilisation — to the indigenous contractor handling the project. However, persistent insecurity had hindered progress, preventing the contractor from moving to site.
He expressed optimism that with ongoing peace initiatives and dialogue with repentant bandits, the atmosphere was becoming conducive for development. “Once stability is fully restored, the contractor will confidently mobilise, and the 27-kilometre road will be delivered within the agreed timeline,” Radda assured.
Reiterating his “Building Your Future” blueprint, the governor said his administration has already achieved 90 percent of campaign promises, stressing that structured policies remain the backbone of his development drive. He urged Sabuwa residents to remain united and support government’s efforts.
Speaking for the delegation, APC stalwart Engineer Tasiu Abubakar thanked the governor for awarding the road project and appointing indigenes of the area into his administration. He also appealed for intervention on the abandoned Federal Agricultural Park in Sabuwa, initiated under former President Goodluck Jonathan, noting its potential to transform the area into an agricultural hub.
In his remarks, Hon. Danjuma Ibrahim, representing Sabuwa Constituency at the State Assembly, revealed that repentant bandits had expressed readiness for a peace accord with locals, a move he described as a turning point for stability.
Also, Sabuwa Local Government Chairman, Engineer Sagir Tanimu, praised Radda for supporting grassroots projects and empowering local contractors, which he said had revived socio-economic activities in the area.
The meeting ended with renewed assurances of partnership between the people of Sabuwa and the state government in the push for peace and development.
