Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support following the recent passing of his mother, Hajiya Safara’u Umaru Barebari.
In an address delivered by the Governor, he reflected on his Hajiya Safara’u departure with both grief and gratitude.
“The passing of my beloved mother occurred while I was in Saudi Arabia, and though her loss is deeply felt, I am profoundly grateful to Allah for her life and the legacy she left behind,” the Governor stated.
Governor Radda extended his appreciation to the citizens of Katsina State and the entire nation for their solidarity during this difficult time.
“To the good people of Katsina State and Nigeria at large—your outpouring of love, prayers, and solidarity during this period of grief has been a source of immense strength to my family and me. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to every individual, group, and institution that stood with us,” he said.
The Governor specifically acknowledged several dignitaries who offered their condolences, saying, “I specifically thank His Excellency, the Vice President of Nigeria, for leading the powerful federal delegation sent by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”
He further expressed gratitude to governors across the nation, their spouses, and Honorable Ministers who honoured the state with their presence and kind words as well as the National Assembly, particularly the distinguished members and all other political leaders who shared in our sorrow.
The traditional institutions, members of the Katsina State Executive Council, friends, associates, and international well-wishers including the former Vice President were also recognized in his address.
“Almighty Allah does nothing without purpose; He makes no mistakes. We accept His will with humility and pray He grants my mother eternal peace in Aljannah Firdaus,” Governor Radda remarked.
The Governor, however, concluded with a commitment to honour the legacy of the late matriarch, “In her lifetime, my mother embodied unity, service, and compassion—values I am now doubly resolved to uphold. Let her legacy remind us that true leadership is rooted in selflessness and bridging divides.”
“Once again, I thank the people of Katsina, Nigeria, and all who stood by us. May Allah bless you abundantly, grant our nation peace, and guide us to honor the departed through purposeful service. Wassalamu Alaikum,” Governor Radda concluded.
The late Hajiya Safara’u passed on last Saturday at the age of 93. The matriarch was survived by children, grant children and great-grandchildren.
