Governor Lawal to World Bank: ‘We Are Winning the War on Banditry’

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has declared that his administration is making significant progress in the fight against banditry, assuring the World Bank of improved security in the state.

Speaking during an official visit to the World Bank office in Abuja on Friday, Governor Lawal invited the global financial institution to send a mission to Zamfara to assess ongoing development projects.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that discussions centered on key initiatives in education, health, climate resilience, and agriculture.

“We have enhanced security measures, strengthened patrols, and adopted strategic approaches to mitigate threats,” Governor Lawal said. “Banditry attacks on our highways, villages, and cities are under control. Life is gradually returning to normal.”

Reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding development efforts, the governor assured the World Bank of security for its personnel during project supervision visits.

In response, World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Dr. Ndiamé Diop, praised Governor Lawal’s leadership, expressing confidence in the state’s transformation.

“I am impressed by the system you put in place. Congratulations on achieving such feats in such a very short time,” Dr. Diop stated.

Additionally, the Task Team Leader of the NG-CARES project commended Zamfara’s implementation model, stating it is now being replicated in other states and countries.

Governor Lawal concluded by inviting the World Bank team to visit Zamfara and witness firsthand the progress being made.
