Governor Lawal Pardons 31 Inmates, Grants Financial Aid for Reintegration

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has pardoned 31 inmates from the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Gusau, offering each N50,000 to ease their reintegration into society.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, confirmed in a press statement that the pardon followed a thorough review of the inmates’ records and was granted under Section 212(1) of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution. Governor Lawal, during his visit to the Gusau Medium Custodial Centre, emphasized that the pardon aims to rehabilitate prisoners and address overcrowding in correctional centers.

The Governor also assured additional support for the Gusau Correctional Center. Zamfara’s Comptroller of Corrections, Dr. Umar Galadima, commended the governor’s commitment to justice and reform.
