Governor Nasir Idris dramatically halted his convoy after spotting thick smoke along the roadside — a discovery that led to the swift evacuation of over 140 students during a fire outbreak at Nurul Haqq Quranic and Arabic School in Birnin Kebbi.
The late-night inferno gutted hostels and classrooms, reportedly intensified by gas cylinders in some rooms. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly four hours before bringing it under control.
Grateful that no life was lost, the Governor immediately ordered the constitution of a high-powered investigative committee to unravel the cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences.
All affected students have been safely relocated to the school’s main branch.
