Yobe State is witnessing a historic turnaround in its fight against insecurity, thanks to a united security front championed by Governor Mai Mala Buni and his Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd).
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Abdulsalam said the synergy between the Nigerian Army, Civil Defence, Police, and local hunters has yielded remarkable results from January to June this year. “We make a strong team. Our coordinated operations have stopped Boko Haram attacks and drastically reduced kidnappings across the state,” he revealed.
The joint efforts have liberated numerous villages and towns from insurgent control, ending years of forced “taxation” on communities. Gujiba, Buni Yadi, and Buni Gari—once notorious danger zones—are now safe for travel at any time of day. “Last year, no one would dare go there; now, people move freely,” Abdulsalam said.
One of the most celebrated gains is the restoration of cattle routes and rural roads, reconnecting farmers, traders, and herders. Governor Buni’s strategic leadership has also equipped communities with modern communication gadgets, enabling swift, credible intelligence sharing with security forces.
“Our new strategy is simple: ‘Say what you see.’ Everyone has a role to play in keeping Yobe safe,” Abdulsalam urged, calling on citizens to maintain cooperation with security agencies.
He assured residents that Yobe is now more secure than before but warned against complacency. “We will continue to stay ahead of the enemy. With unity and vigilance, we can sustain this peace.”
The message from Yobe’s security front is clear: coordinated action, timely intelligence, and community trust are turning the tide against insurgency—one safe town at a time.
