In a bold move to reinforce Yobe State’s security architecture, Governor Mai Mala Buni has appointed retired Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam as his Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters — a strategic step reflecting the administration’s unwavering resolve to tackle security challenges head-on.
Brig. Gen. Abdulsalam (rtd), a seasoned military strategist with decades of experience in counter-insurgency and civil-military relations, is expected to bring fresh momentum to Yobe’s security response framework. Known for his operational brilliance and calm under pressure, he is widely respected across Nigeria’s security community.
Speaking shortly after his appointment, Governor Buni described the new SSA as “a patriotic officer, deeply committed to peace, intelligence-driven solutions, and safeguarding the lives and property of our people.”
“This appointment is not just about filling a role,” the governor added. “It is about injecting competence, discipline, and vision into our ongoing security efforts. General Abdulsalam’s wealth of field experience will be crucial as we continue to work closely with the military, police, and community vigilantes.”
Brig. Gen. Abdulsalam pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him, saying, “Yobe is dear to my heart. I understand the terrain, the threats, and the urgency. I’m ready to serve with integrity and results.”
The appointment comes at a critical time as the state intensifies its efforts to consolidate gains in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other emerging threats.
