Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state on Monday has launched the distribution of drainage clearing equipments as a measures to prevent floods and ensure sanitation in the state metropolitants.

The Governor said in many cases during raining season, most parts within Kano city sketch and surrounding experience frequent floods as a result of blockage of the drainages and water channels

Abba Kabir confirmed that, due to the kind of flood epidemic mostly caused by factors related to the blockage of waterways, the problem leads to loss of lives in some cases, damage of properties worth billion of naira and the outbreak of serious diseases.

Speaking during the launch of the distribution of the working tools, held at the premises of the Ministry of Rural and Urban Development, Governor Abba Yusif said, from this time, his government has taken a sustainable steps to solve the yearly floods epidemic throughout the

The Governor added that the government has prepared vehicles to carry the garbage, wastes that would be removed from the drainages, added that taking this step is great to make the city cleen from the westes.

He expressed optimism that providing these materials would facilitate practical solutions and create lasting impacts. The expected outcomes of this initiative include:

– Strengthened community cohesionand increased participation in governance

Governor Abba Yusuf urged all stakeholders to collaborate to achieve these shared goals, ensuring that the working materials are utilized effectively and that projects are implemented with transparency and accountability.

He also called on development partners and the private sector to support this initiative through financial and technical assistance, underscoring the government’s commitment to building resilient and sustainable city.

The items distributed include 600 each of wheelbarrows, shovels, rain boots, diggers, fork-shovels, rakes, pans, hand gloves, and 150 first aid boxes.

He further warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse within drainages and other waterways that affect the passage of water during the rainy season.
