Gov Radda Supports NAPRI Expansion in Katsina

The Katsina State Government has pledged full support for the establishment of an outreach center for the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in Daneji area of Mahuta district, Kafur Local Government Area.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, made this commitment while receiving a letter of recommendation for the establishment of the center from the representative of the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Kabiru Bala.

Speaking during the presentation, Alhaji Nasir, who received the letter on behalf of the State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, promised to deliver it to the Governor for prompt action.

“The proposed outreach centre would go along way in providing not only job opportunities for the teeming young men and women and the generality of farmers, but will become pivotal for Katsina and the north west states ,” said the Chief of Staff.

Alhaji Nasir further stated, “The centre would provide access and utilize the knowledge on advanced Animal husbandry that the northern Nigeria required.”

The Chief of Staff said, “I express happiness for the Vice Chancellor of the ABU who deemed it fit to recommend for the establishment of the center in the state.”

“This would give the students of Agriculture a place to learn and advance their knowledge and for the businessmen and women to utilize the opportunity to go beyond multiply income,” he added.

Alhaji Nasir also commended the Daneji community for their initiative, noting that “people have started embracing the policy direction of the community development program of Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.”

Earlier, while presenting the letter of recommendation, Dr. Yunusa Mohammed Isiyaku, representing the Vice Chancellor of ABU Zaria, explained that the proposed centre followed a request submitted by a delegation led by the Danejin Katsina, District Head of Mahuta in Kafur Local Government.

“The objective of the outreach centre is to provide training and extension services to livestock farmers, and conduct on site research and demonstrations of improved Animal husbandry programs and enhancing breeding practice as well as genetic improvement of livestock,” Dr. Isiyaku stated.

He emphasized that “establishing the outreach center in Mahuta would have direct and long term benefits on livestock farmers, the economy and Agricultural sector of the state and beyond.”

Katsina State Government, however, reaffirms its commitment to agricultural development and will work closely with Ahmadu Bello University to ensure the successful establishment of this vital research outreach center.
