Gov Idris Flags Off 2.9km Gwandu Road, Warns Contractors on Quality

Borno State Government

Governor Nasir Idris has flagged off the construction of a 2.9-kilometre Ahmadu Bello Road in Gwandu, marking a fresh push in his administration’s infrastructure drive across Kebbi State.

Speaking at the ceremony in Gwandu Local Government Area, the governor described the project as a historic intervention, noting that the road had suffered years of neglect and was long overdue for reconstruction.

He said the initiative reflects his government’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects that directly impact the lives of citizens.
Idris, however, issued a stern warning to contractors handling the project, insisting on strict adherence to specifications and timely delivery.

He directed the Ministry of Works to intensify supervision to ensure quality standards are not compromised.

“The road must be properly executed. We have made adequate funds available to ensure its completion,” the governor assured.

Beyond the road project, Idris also pledged to approve the provision of a 7.5MVA transformer for the area, a move expected to significantly boost electricity supply and stimulate socio-economic activities in Gwandu.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Abdullahi Umar Muslim, said the project fulfils a key campaign promise made by the governor, describing it as proof of his sincerity and commitment to development.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Gwandu Local Government, Atiku Ahmad, conveyed appreciation from the people, pledging continued support for the administration.

The event drew community leaders, government officials and residents, who hailed the project as a major step toward improving infrastructure and enhancing economic growth in the historic town.
