In a significant step towards rehabilitating former Kalare members, the Gombe State Police Command has successfully trained over 20 reformed Kalare boys in various skills to promote self-reliance. The graduation ceremony, held at the Police Command Headquarters in Gombe, by CP Hayatu Usman, the Commissioner of Police for Gombe State.
In 2023, hundreds of Kalare boys surrendered their arms and renounced their activities, responding to a call for peace and rehabilitation. CP Hayatu Usman highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader plan to reintegrate these individuals into society by providing them with valuable skills. This effort is carried out in collaboration with an entrepreneurial center, which facilitated the training program. Usman appealed to the well-to-do individuals in Gombe State to support this initiative, aiming to enhance security and peace in Gombe.
AIG Zubairu Mu’azu (Retired), UBANDOMA of Gombe, and Special Adviser to Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, praised the Commissioner’s initiative, stating it is an effective measure to curb Kalare activities. He assured that the State Government is keen on further supporting these reformed boys, ensuring they can utilize their new skills for self-reliance. He also called on the people of Gombe State to maintain peace and harmony.
Alhaji Yaya Hammari, a respected elder in the state, commended the Commissioner for launching such a transformative program. He urged Governor Yahaya and the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, to develop strategic plans to assist these reformed boys. Hammari emphasized that such efforts would significantly contribute to making Gombe a center of peace in Northeast Nigeria.
Representing the parents of the graduates, Alhaji Mahmud Elnafaty expressed gratitude to CP Usman for his visionary approach to turning former Kalare boys into productive members of society.
Alhaji Babangida National, CEO and President of the Thrive Trek Entrepreneurial Centre acknowledged the support from the Police Commissioner in making the training possible. He noted that the training, which includes skills such as solar installation, phone repair, plumbing, and wiring, will continue in batches as resources allow. He encouraged the graduates to apply their skills effectively and contribute positively to the community.
Comrade Garba Ubale, Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Gombe State, welcomed the development and thanked all contributors to the program’s success, especially CP Usman and the Thrive Trek Entrepreneurial Centre.
The event saw the attendance of prominent figures from various quarters of the Gombe metropolis, including Bolari, Jekadafari, Kumbiya Kumbiya, Pantami, and Nasarawo, all showing their support for the reformation and skill acquisition program.
