Accra, Ghana — In a sweeping early-morning offensive against organised online fraud, Ghanaian authorities have arrested 141 Nigerian nationals in what officials describe as one of the country’s largest coordinated cybercrime busts.
The joint operation—led by the Cybercrime and Security Agency alongside the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service—targeted fraud hubs in Tabora and Lashibi, two Accra suburbs flagged in months of intelligence-led surveillance.
Authorities confirmed 100 arrests in Tabora and 41 in Lashibi, with investigators seizing 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones allegedly used to execute Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud, Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes, romance scams, sextortion, and wire fraud.
In a notable twist, a Ghanaian landlord was also taken into custody for housing 100 of the suspects, as officials stressed the legal duty of property owners to prevent criminal enterprises from operating on their premises.
Security sources said forensic examinations of the seized devices are underway, with digital trails expected to unlock wider networks and financial flows. Those found culpable will be prosecuted under Ghanaian law, signalling Accra’s hardening stance against transnational cyber syndicates exploiting digital payment systems.
The operation sends a clear warning across the sub-region: Ghana is tightening the noose on cybercrime, and coordinated intelligence—backed by swift arrests—will remain the playbook.
