A concerned resident of Funtua, Malam Muttaqa Maitumaki, has called on authorities to consider the construction of an interchange overhead bridge at the ongoing dual carriage project along the Sokoto-Zaria Road, located at the of Funtua metropolis.
In a public appeal, Malam Muttaqa highlighted the growing traffic congestion in the area, especially during peak hours, describing the roundabout as a major choke point that disrupts movement and economic activity.
He stressed that while the roundabout is a welcome development, an overhead bridge would offer a more lasting solution to the traffic challenges faced by motorists, pedestrians, and commercial vehicle operators.
He said the volume of traffic passing through the point daily is enormous, as it connects major routes leading to Katsina, Zaria, Gusau, and beyond.
Malam Muttaqa added that without a modern traffic management system such as a flyover, the roundabout alone may not be enough to handle the pressure.
He therefore urged the Ministry of Works to review the current design and include a flyover in the project to promote safety, ease movement, and support the growing urban infrastructure needs of Funtua.
