KATSINA — In a decisive move to curb deadly road practices at their roots, Federal Road Safety Corps RS 1.3 Katsina, alongside its component commands, on Friday launched Day One of a three-day, city-wide engagement with transport unions—sending a clear warning against overloading as the festive rush peaks.
Acting on the Corps Marshal’s directive, the operation rolled into key motor parks across Katsina metropolis, including Kofar Yandaka, Kofar Guga and Kofar Sauri, with parallel sensitisation sessions held at Tashar Yamma Branch Motor Park in Daura, NURTW Motor Park in Kankia and the Central Motor Park in Malumfashi.
At the heart of the campaign was a firm stance against the rising—and dangerous—habit of cramming passengers into vehicle boots and onto rooftops. FRSC officers warned that such practices dramatically increase crash risks and fatalities, stressing that enforcement will be uncompromising.
The sessions were interactive and practical. Drivers, union officials and commuters engaged officers on the real-life consequences of overloading, vehicle strain, crash dynamics and the statutory penalties awaiting violators. In a yuletide gesture reinforcing the message of care, the Corps distributed flyers and bottled water to participants.
Union leaders welcomed the outreach, praising FRSC’s consistency in prioritising lives during the festive season and beyond. They noted, however, that most overloading occurs illegally outside recognised motor parks—often without the knowledge of park authorities.
In response, the unions pledged closer collaboration with FRSC, committing to joint operations against habitual offenders and backing tougher sanctions to deter violations.
The renewed partnership, officials said, signals a shared resolve to deliver safer highways across Katsina State and adjoining corridors.
