FRSC Seeks Revival of Katsina Road Safety Advisory Council

Katsina state government

Deputy Governor Pledges Support, To Appoint Focal Desk Officer

The Katsina State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Farouk Lawal Jobe, on Monday received the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, who led a team of officers and Special Marshals on a courtesy visit to Government House.

Speaking during the visit, Lede said his mission was not only for familiarisation but to consolidate efforts toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the target of reducing road traffic fatalities by 50% by the year 2030.

The FRSC boss stressed the importance of the Deputy Governor’s office in road safety management, noting his statutory role as Chairman of the State Advisory Council on Road Safety (SaRSAC). He lamented that although the Council had been inaugurated in Katsina, it had not been active in discharging its mandate of driving the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (NRSS) through the globally recognised “Safe System Approach.”

“There is an urgent need to reinvigorate SaRSAC with evidence-based activities aimed at achieving the goals of the NRSS and, ultimately, the aspirations of the SDGs,” Lede emphasised.

In his response, the Deputy Governor appreciated the Sector Commander’s visit and raised concerns about commuters’ poor attitude, particularly inappropriate loading of vehicles, urging the FRSC to intensify enforcement.

He pledged the government’s support in reactivating SaRSAC and announced plans to appoint a focal desk officer in his office to ensure effective coordination.

Lede commended Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, for what he described as “giant strides in infrastructural development” and for providing an enabling environment for FRSC operations in the state.
