The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina State Command, has demonstrated transparency and accountability by handing over ₦6.2 million and personal belongings worth over ₦100,000 to the family of a fatal crash victim.
According to the Command, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Dikke along the Funtua–Sokoto highway, when a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number SRZ 112 LG suffered a tyre burst linked to excessive speeding, causing it to somersault.
Out of the 18 passengers on board, one adult male died on the spot, while 17 others—comprising 15 men and two women—sustained various injuries and were promptly rescued by FRSC operatives and taken to the General Hospital, Funtua.
In the course of rescue operations, a bag containing ₦6.2 million and other personal items was recovered but initially unclaimed. After due verification and investigation, FRSC traced the deceased’s relative and officially handed over the recovered items at the Funtua Unit Command.
During the handover ceremony, FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists to always inspect their tyres and adhere to speed limits to prevent avoidable crashes.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring the public that every recovered item in its custody is handled with utmost integrity.
