The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina State Sector Command, has launched a decisive offensive against unsafe loading practices, taking its lifesaving message directly to the bustling Mai’Adua Livestock Market in a bold move to curb rising road tragedies linked to reckless cargo transportation.
The large-scale sensitisation campaign, carried out on Sunday, December 28, 2025, was executed in partnership with the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria, Katsina State chapter, as FRSC officers and Special Marshals engaged livestock dealers, truck owners and drivers at one of the busiest commercial hubs in northern Katsina.
Leading the operation personally, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, declared zero tolerance for the dangerous practice of mix-loading—where animals, goods and human passengers are crammed into the same vehicle.
He described the trend, common along long-distance routes from the North-West to the eastern corridor, as “a ticking time bomb,” particularly condemning situations where passengers are forced to sit atop cattle on fully loaded trucks.
“This practice is inhumane, illegal and completely unacceptable in a civilised society,” Lede warned. “No economic activity is worth a human life.”
The FRSC boss lamented that despite repeated warnings and enlightenment drives, some drivers continue to endanger lives, stressing that the Corps would now back education with firm enforcement. According to him, offenders will be arrested and prosecuted without compromise.
Corps Commander Lede assured that the campaign would not end in Mai’Adua, noting that sustained engagements and patrols would continue across motor parks, markets and major loading points throughout Katsina State.
He also praised the strong collaboration received from transport unions, market associations, religious and traditional institutions, security agencies, the media and the Katsina State Government, expressing confidence that collective action would deliver lasting change.
As part of the exercise, the FRSC team paid courtesy visits to key traditional authorities, including Alhaji Ahmad Ahmad Didire, Galadiman Daura and Hakimin Mai’Adua, and Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad, Marusan Daura and Hakimin Yandi. Other prominent stakeholders present included Sarkin Tasha, Sarkin Shanu, union executives and market leaders.
In their remarks, the traditional rulers and union representatives applauded the FRSC’s proactive intervention and pledged full cooperation, vowing to mobilise drivers and livestock dealers against unsafe loading.
With renewed resolve and broad stakeholder backing, the FRSC says it is determined to sanitise cargo transportation, protect innocent lives and entrench a culture of road safety across Katsina State and beyond.
