Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have struck again in Kebbi State, storming a mosque in Dadinkowa village, Maiyama Local Government Area, and killing four worshippers in what security sources describe as a revenge mission.
The attackers reportedly invaded the community during prayers and opened fire on the congregation, leaving four people dead on the spot and five others injured. The wounded victims were rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
Sources linked the assault to a failed ambush earlier this week targeting the convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Maj.-Gen. Bemgha Koughna, during an operational tour in the state.
Troops under Operation Fansan Yamma had foiled the ambush near Mayama Hill on Wednesday, neutralising five suspected terrorists in a fierce exchange.
Security operatives recovered one OJC gun, one PKT gun, two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, a bandolier of PKT ammunition, several rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, a camel bag containing ₦840,000, two mobile phones and five motorcycles.
Security sources believe the mosque attack was carried out in retaliation for the heavy losses suffered by the terrorists during the botched ambush.
Operation Fansan Yamma has assured residents that intensified operations are ongoing to track down those behind the latest bloodshed and restore calm to the area.
The incident has heightened tension in parts of Kebbi State, with calls for sustained security presence to prevent further reprisals.
