Former Senator representing Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, has surrendered himself to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja following allegations that he raped a 13-year-old schoolgirl.
According to a petition filed by the law firm D.I. Aiyedun & Co. to the Inspector-General of Police, the alleged incident occurred on June 29, 2025, at Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja. The petition also accused the ex-lawmaker of attempting to assault the victim’s 16-year-old sister, intimidating the family, and trying to cover up the case with financial inducements.
Medical evidence reportedly submitted to the police showed bruising consistent with sexual assault, while records of a ₦200,000 transfer allegedly linked to Abbo’s associates were cited as part of efforts to silence the family.
The victim’s parents further alleged that a high-profile politician visited them urging them to drop the case. They also claimed to have received threats warning them not to pursue justice.
As of Thursday, Abbo remains in police custody at the FCID headquarters in Abuja while investigations continue.
The former senator, who lost his seat in 2023 after a Court of Appeal ruling, is no stranger to controversy, having previously faced public backlash in 2019 over an assault incident at a shop in Abuja.
This case has sparked outrage among rights groups, with many calling for a transparent investigation and justice for the alleged victim.
