In a dramatic pre-dawn shootout, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command thwarted a brazen armed robbery attack at Annex B Estate, Ikot Ator Village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, leaving one suspect dead and two others on the run with bullet wounds.
The robbery attempt, which occurred around 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, was foiled after a swift response to a distress call by a vigilant resident. On arrival, the police team was met with gunfire from three armed men who had already begun their operation.
In a fierce exchange of bullets, one of the suspects was fatally neutralized, while the other two managed to escape into the dark, reportedly injured. A lodger caught in the crossfire sustained a gunshot wound and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Items recovered from the scene include a locally made shotgun, both live and expended cartridges, four Android phones, an industrial cutter, a cross bag with N5,700 cash, a wristwatch, a packed Echolac box, and a Qlink motorcycle bearing plate number UML 906 QX.
Police say the hunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing and have assured residents that intensified efforts are being made to bring them to justice.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, urged the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information to help the force combat crime across the state.
“We remain committed to securing the lives and property of every resident,” she stated.
