In the ongoing search for dead bodies in the aftermath of the terribly devastated Maiduguri floods disaster, a number of eleven decomposed corpses have been recovered.
The discovery came on the wheels of the current rescue operations by a team of dedicated officers and men of Borno Command of the Nigeria Police Force led by the State Commissioner, CP Yusuf Mohammed LAWAL.
A press statement signed by a Supervising Police Public Relations Officer Northeast, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil confirmed that a total of eleven corpses were recovered in parts of Maiduguri metropolis.
SP Ahmed Wakil gave the corpses recovery areas as Lamisula, Jere, GRA, Bulabulin, and Dandal where people were said to have been drowned as a result of heavy territorial rainfall compounded by unprecedented floods in the history of Maiduguri metropolis.
The Supervising Police Public Relations Officer said, “It was confirmed that a total of eleven (11) drowned corpses were recovered in different areas between the hours of 1000hrs to 1400hrs on 11/09/2024 and 12/09/2024”.
Wakil explained that given the gravity of the tragic situation, the Borno Police Command is committed to dedicating all possible efforts to ensure that recovery and rescue operations are carried out effectively in the affected communities.
It could be recalled that following the devastated floods that swamped some parts of Maiduguri metropolis recently a joint efforts of some segments of security operatives under the State Commissioner of Police was constituted led by CP Yusuf Mohammed Lawal to address the menace.
