The global spotlight shone on Nigeria yesterday as the First Lady of Katsina State, Mrs. Dikko Umar Radda, joined fellow First Ladies and women leaders at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to mark the 2025 International Day of Peace.
Representing the Chairperson of the Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF), Mrs. Radda delivered a stirring keynote address that highlighted the critical role of women as “catalysts for peacebuilding, social cohesion, and sustainable development.”
She stressed that empowering women to step into leadership and drive community development is not just essential for achieving global peace, but also a cornerstone for realizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Reaffirming the unwavering commitment of Nigerian First Ladies, Mrs. Radda pledged continued dedication to initiatives that uplift women, protect children, and nurture peaceful, resilient communities. She emphasized that these efforts are carefully aligned with international frameworks for peace and development.
The high-level event, themed “Becoming Actions for Peace: Ambition for Women as Key Players in Promoting Sustainable Development”, convened a diverse assembly of influential women leaders. Together, they explored fresh strategies, strengthened collaborations, and advanced shared ambitions for a more peaceful and prosperous world.
As the discussions unfolded in New York, the commemoration underscored a powerful message: women leaders remain a formidable force in shaping a future defined by peace, unity, and sustainable progress for generations to come.
