In a major political shake-up that signals the final collapse of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State, a prominent PDP chieftain, Alhaji Sani Adamu Yarin Fika, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection, which took place at a colourful ceremony in Damaturu, drew the attendance of top APC stakeholders, party loyalists, and political supporters from across the state.
Explaining his decision, Yarin Fika said he was convinced by the exemplary leadership and developmental strides of Governor Mai Mala Buni, describing him as a visionary leader who has transformed Yobe into a model of progress and good governance.
“I am joining APC because I have seen sincerity, commitment, and tangible results under Governor Buni. My supporters and I have decided to align with this success story. From today, PDP and any other form of opposition in Yobe are dead,” Yarin Fika declared.
The former PDP heavyweight further revealed that all his loyalists from the Zone B senatorial district, particularly from Potiskum axis, have also switched allegiance to the APC, promising to work tirelessly for the continued dominance of the party in the state.
Receiving the new entrant, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka, described Yarin Fika’s defection as a “big catch” for the party, adding that the APC remains open and inclusive to all who share its ideals of unity and development.
> “We value this defection greatly. We assure you of full integration and equal opportunities like every other member of our party,” Gadaka stated.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, who formally welcomed Yarin Fika and his supporters, said their decision to join APC was both strategic and symbolic, as it would further strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and consolidate its dominance across the state.
“Your coming into APC is a welcome development. You and your supporters are now part of the APC family. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more prosperous Yobe,” Governor Buni said.
The event was marked by jubilant cheers from party faithful who described Yarin Fika’s move as the “final nail in the coffin” of the PDP in Yobe State.
With this latest defection, political observers believe the APC has tightened its grip on Yobe’s political landscape, leaving little to no space for opposition activity in the state.
