Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has said the Federal Government was upgrading the capacity of Nigeria Immigration Services ( NIS) to effectively control the nation’s borders.
This statement was made by the Minister of interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola during the Commissioning of New Command Headquarters and Lunching of New Enhance e- passport in Katsina.
According to him, Katsina state has 400 kilometer border line, 14 boarder position , adding that Nigeria immigration services was responsible for the management and documentation of migrants into the country.
He added that Nigeria Immigration Sevices was provided with border force to secure the bookings, stressing that officers should manage the borders position to enhance electronic passport .
He called on the men and officers of the Nigeria Immigration Seervices to redouble their effort in delivering effective services, just as he urged officers to sustain and maintain the new office building.
In his remarks, the Controller – General of Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Isah Idris Jere said the event was designee to celebrate the dual fit and rolling – out the enhance E- passport.
He added that the travel document was in three categories , noting that they were in collaboration with the National Identity Management (NIMC).
He explained that the New Enhance e-passport had 25 additional security over the current electronic passport , adding that the passport technology was durable and user’s friendly.
“He said that the enhance e -passport was significant for rebust service delivery, adding that Nigeria was the first country in Africa to migrate to the type of passport.”
According to him, equipment of enhance e passport has set- up in Katsina and it will be operational in three weeks and in due course and office would be open in Daura.
Also speaking, the Controller Immigration Services , Katsina State , Commander Bello Garba said that men and officers in the Katsina State were performing their duties effectively and efficiently and thanked the Controller-General for his effective leadership, welfare and support to them .
The Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello masari represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muntari Lawal on behalf of the Katsina State Government appreciated the Nigeria Immigration Services for building a permanent site for the Command in Katsina State.
