The Federal Government has approved disciplinary actions against several officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following media reports that exposed various acts of misconduct within the Service.
According to a statement by the NIS, eight officers have been dismissed, five compulsorily retired, and eight others demoted after investigations confirmed their involvement in offences ranging from corruption and abuse of office to negligence of duty.
The Service commended the media for bringing the matter to light, noting that responsible journalism remains a vital partner in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.
The Comptroller General of Immigration reiterated that the Service would not tolerate any form of indiscipline, emphasizing that officers found guilty of misconduct will continue to face strict sanctions in line with public service rules.
He further assured that the Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to upholding professionalism and restoring public confidence through continuous internal reforms and zero tolerance for corruption.
