The Federal Government has commenced a comprehensive personnel audit of civil servants nationwide, with a focus on capturing each worker’s Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN) to clean up the system and eliminate ghost workers.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Dr. Didi Walson-Jack, disclosed this in Abuja through a statement signed by Mrs. Eno Olotu, Director of Information and Public Relations.
According to Walson-Jack, the exercise is a key component of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to build a modern and efficient civil service. She explained that the audit will not only determine the actual size and structure of the workforce but also identify the skills required to meet future demands.
The verified digital database to be created will link employees’ records with their NIN and BVN, resolving discrepancies, plugging leakages, and ensuring accurate payroll management.
“This initiative will also highlight critical skills gaps in ICT, project management, public finance, and data analysis,” the statement added.
To oversee the process, Walson-Jack will chair a steering committee comprising permanent secretaries, the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Director-General of the Budget Office, representatives from the Presidency, and consultants.
The government believes the move will bring transparency, strengthen accountability, and set a new benchmark for civil service reforms in Nigeria.
