As part of efforts to tackle the security challenges bedeviling the nation, the Senate AD-HOC Committee on National Security, has organized a one- day security summit in kaduna with the Theme: Building Robust Regional Collaboration to insecurity: Pathways for securing the future.
The event, which took place on Saturday, at Umaru Musa Yaradua hall, Murtala Square attracted dignitaries from all walks of life .
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North-West zonal Security Summit, Senator Babangida Hussaini, reiterated the unwavering commitment of the federal government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s determination to restoring stability across the North-West.
He said that securing lives and livelihoods remains the highest priority of government, noting that collaborative and community-driven strategies are essential to defeating insecurity in the region.
Senator Hussaini stated that the gathering reflects a renewed national resolve to confront banditry, kidnapping and violent extremism”.
“He added that the summit provides a strategic platform for experts, security agencies, traditional rulers and community representatives to offer practical solutions tailored to the realities of the North-West.
Earlier, the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, expressed his administration’s firm commitment to deepening collaboration with federal institutions, traditional authorities and community leaders.
Governor Sani highlighted the state’s investments in technology-driven surveillance, security partnerships and grassroots conflict-prevention efforts as part of a sustained strategy to safeguard residents he said “.
Also Speaking, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, reaffirmed the federal government’s readiness to intensify military operations and provide advanced equipment to forces combating insecurity.
He said that the ongoing reforms within the defence architecture are aimed at improving operational efficiency, intelligence fusion and rapid response capabilities across the North-West”.
In his remarks, Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis, representing Zamfara Central and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, commended the initiative, describing it as a critical intervention at a time when communication infrastructure must support early-warning systems and frontline operations.
He emphasized that strengthening telecommunications in rural and vulnerable communities would enhance security coordination and community reporting”.
On his part, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, represented by the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, emphasized the indispensable role of traditional institutions in intelligence-sharing, community mobilisation and peace-building.
He said that traditional authorities would continue to work closely with government and security agencies to promote unity, mediation and early detection of threats.
In attendance were traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations and security agencies among others.
