The Federal Government has withdrawn its criminal complaint against Ms. Comfort Emmanson and reduced the flight ban on Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), to one month.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the decision Wednesday in Abuja after consultations with aviation stakeholders over recent airport unruly conduct cases.
Emmanson, who was jailed over an August 10 Ibom Airline incident, will be freed this week as police withdraw charges, while her lifetime flight ban is set to be lifted by the Airline Operators of Nigeria.
For KWAM 1, involved in a dispute with ValueJet staff, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority will slash his ban and drop criminal charges, with plans to make him an airport security protocol ambassador.
Keyamo said the clemency—also covering reinstatement of licences for two ValueJet pilots after one month—was on compassionate grounds, warning it would be the last gesture of its kind.
Aviation agencies will now embark on retraining to better manage disruptive passengers and improve staff–traveller relations.
