The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of this year’s Independence Day parade, earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1.

In a statement issued yesterday by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, the government explained that the decision does not lessen the importance of the historic milestone.

“All other programmes lined up to commemorate the 65th Independence remain in place,” the statement assured, stressing that Nigeria’s anniversary would still be celebrated with “dignity and enthusiasm.”

While apologizing for any inconvenience caused, the government appealed for the understanding of citizens, the diplomatic corps, and invited guests.

It further urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in his reform agenda aimed at building a greater nation.
